Thousands of troops and police have been deployed in Thailand's three southernmost provinces in case of violence on the January 04 first anniversary of a Muslim separatist revolt.
'We deployed thousands of security officers,' General Sirichai Tanyasiri, head of the Southern Border Provinces Peace Building Command, told AFP.
Defence Minister General Sampan Boonyanun said the government had ordered troops and police onto full alert. He told AFP he expects that near-daily incidents of arson or attacks on personnel will continue for a while.
Meanwhile, in the Tsunami-devastated north of Thailand, efforts are being made to assist survivors. Arguably, this would be easier if military personnel weren't being forced to piddle about with the head-hackers and their jihad against Buddhist monks. But -- hey -- the Muslim fanatics just don't care.
