Happy New Year: 'Not On Our Watch', Say Clerics

We'd like to take this opportunity to wish all our readers a happy and prosperous New Year. (And that includes you, Somalia.)

While the rest of the world get drunk, party, and wish each other all the very best, clerics in the war-torn nest of Islamist lunacy have decided the only response to such flagrant human happiness is to ban the celebrations outright:

In a news conference, Council Chairman Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed criticised the owners of hotels planning parties.
Somalia is an overwhelmingly Muslim country, but has been without a national government for 13 years.
'Muslims are only allowed to have two festivals,' he said.
'Anyone who is found either holding or participating in such celebrations would meet severe punishment,' he said.

You have been warned.

Have a nice one. See you in 2005.
